Salvia Nachtvlinder. This sage has such aromatic leaves and rich colour, you will want it to be close to a path where you can brush by and enjoy it. Left to it’s own devices mine has flowered beautifully since Spring offering an unusually deep shade of velvety purple in a mixed border.
In Devon this will be evergreen for most of the year and loves a sheltered, well drained sunny spot.
Now is a good time to take cuttings from this one I think and is a great way to get more plants for free. Cut the tips off some stems with clean snips and pop them in water on a window sill. You will soon see roots showing, transfer them to a 9cm pot with a free draining compost and let them grow on until next Spring.
